On the eve of the Victory Day the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev signed the decree “On awarding the State Prize of the Russian Federation named after marshal of the USSR Georgy Zhukov in 2012”. The scientific leader of VNIIEF Radiy Il’kayev is one of the nominees of the Prize.

From 18 to 22 of April, 2012, RFNC-VNIIEF took part in the 40-th jubilee Show of Inventions and Innovations in Geneva, Switzerland. The biggest exhibition center of Geneva named Geneva-Palexpo became the site for demonstration of thousands of developments, projects and inventions brought together from over 50 countries.
The delegation of the Nuclear Center headed by the Deputy Head of the Department for International Relations of VNIIEF Maxim Pelykh worked as part of the consolidated delegation of Nizhny Novgorod region.
Three projects were presented in the exposition of the Nuclear Center: “Diffusion galvanization – a new method to apply anti-corrosion coating” (originator Tatyana Kazakovskaya); “Nano-structured semi-products and components for engineering purposes” (originator Andrey Smolyakov); “The device with biological feedback for restoration and functional recovery of human hands” (originator Oleg Shamro).
All the three projects of RFNC-VNIIEF were awarded with golden medals and diplomas of the 40-th Geneva Show. The project for restoration and functional recovery of human hands was awarded with another three medals, initiated by the participants of the show.

On the 24 of April, 2012, the International Conference “Twenty years of collaboration of the nuclear centers of Rosatom and the US national laboratories” started its sessions in Sarov, hosted by the Russian Federal Nuclear Center.
The nuclear scientists of both countries gathered to give estimates to 20 years of collaboration and to discuss the prospects.
The Conference, hosted at the ancient Sarov land, was opened by the scientific leader of RFNC-VNIIEF, academician R.I. Il’kayev. He greeted those present and narrated about his vision of cooperation with the American counterpart. “Our collaboration with the USA national laboratories encompasses the widest spectrum, including such crucial points as safety and security of nuclear munitions and its non-proliferation. Together with our American colleagues we’ve done a lot”, - said VNIIEF scientific leader.

The International Conference named “Twenty years of collaboration between nuclear centers of Rosatom and the US national laboratories” was opened on 23 April, 2012.
The Conference gathered the scientists and experts from the State Corporation Rosatom, nuclear centers VNIIEF and VNIITF, NIIIS after Yu.E. Sedakov, VNIIA after N.L. Dukhov, OKBM after I.I. Afrikantov.
The USA delegation headed by ex-director of Los-Alamos national laboratory Siegfrid Hecker combined the current experts and veterans of LANL (Los-Alamos NL), LLNL (Lawrence Livermore NL), PNNL (North-Pacific NL) and Sandia national labs governed by the Department of Energy of the USA.
The director of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center VNIIEF Valentin Kostyukov in his opening word underlined, that the purpose of the Conference is to give the retrospective view of collaboration between two countries and to find out the perspectives for the same, saying: “Today is the historical day, which is to conclude our joint efforts. With these twenty years behind we can now pay tribute to courage and firmness of those people, who started these undertakings in times, which were not easy for both countries”. Director of VNIIEF expressed his hope, that the Conference will give impetus to positive developments both in Russia and the USA. Siegfrid Hecker, going back to 20-year old political events, mentioned: “We understood those days, that we better be cooperating, than competing to build nuclear safety in a proper way”.

RFNC-VNIIEF took part in the combined exposition of State Corporation ROSATOM at the XII International Exhibition “Nuclear Industry China-2012”, which was held on 3-6 April, 2012 in the biggest exhibition center of China “China National Convention Center” in Beijing.
The basic topical sections of the exhibition included this year: nuclear machine engineering; technologies of nuclear fuel cycle; monitoring and environmental protection systems; another acute problems of the atomic energy.
The exposition of the State Corporation ROSATOM was represented by the following organizations: OJSC TWEL, OJSC Concern Rosenergoatom, OJSC Atomenergomash, OJSC OKBM Afrikantov and a few others.
What was presented by RFNC-VNIIEF includes: the technology for isotope production by electromagnetic separation method; products made of high-enriched isotopes; protective containers for transportation of isotopes; spherical absorbers for purification of liquid radioactive wastes; mobile facility for air purification from aerosols, gaseous and radioactive pollutants; software complex PROSA for evaluation of effectiveness of physical protection systems installed at the important objects.
The exposition by ROSATOM enjoyed big popularity. The higher officials from the government of China visited it, including the Chairman of the People’s Political and Consultative Council Chia Chinlin; the General Secretary of the State Council Ma Kai; vice-prime minister of the State Council Li KoChiang; the General Director of the National Chinese Nuclear Corporation Hsin Chin.

The XIV International Conference “Pulsed Powered Electrophysics” under the auspices of Khariton’s Topical Scientific Readings opened on the 12 of March, 2012, in the Russian Federal Nuclear Center (VNIIEF).
This year the conference tackled theoretical problems of power electrophysics; particle accelerators and radiation sources based on the same; magnetic cumulation and its practical application; electrophysical studies within plasma physics and gas discharges as well as the physics of the condensed state.
The conference was attended by over 200 leading scientists and experts, including those from VNIIEF, Moscow State University, Nizhny Novgorod University, KFU, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the laboratories of the USA, Germany and Denmark.
Professor M. Lefler of the University of the Applied Sciences of Gelsenkirchen (Germany) gave the lecture entitled as “Pulsed electrophysics in the University of Gelsenkirchen” for students and lecturers of SarFTI in the course of the conference.
The conference is held annually as the scientific event to commemorate the outstanding scientist of the XX century Academician Yuly Borisovitch Khariton, who was the scientific leader of VNIIEF from 1946 to 1992.
The conference was closed on the 16 of March, 2012.

On 24 February the Head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko summarized the visit of the Chairman of the Government Vladimir Putin to the Russian Federal Nuclear Center – VNIIEF.
He specified the importance of adopted decisions for RFNC-VNIIEF.
“By now Sarov has great results in quite a number of areas, and neither of our partners or competitors in the world have such ones. Vladimir Vladimirovich came here with a very important decision. Yesterday the Government resolution on appropriation of 45 billion rubles for creation of the unique laser facility was signed. It will be a global project together with Sarov’s supercomputer center. It will give the entire school of specialists, as well as a huge potential for development of fundamental science. And the most important thing is that it will create our country’s competitive power for nearest 50 and 100 years”, - said the Head of “Rosatom”.
Sergey Kiriyenko also underlined that the Chairman of the Government charged with a number of very important missions, concerning the preservation and augmentation of action grants to key employees of the nuclear weapon complex, appropriation of federal funds for the development of closed city infrastructure, supporting educational programs and rise of health care services level in science cities.

On 24 February the Chairman of the Government Vladimir Putin visited the Russian Federal Nuclear Center – VNIIEF (Sarov city) and held a meeting concerning global threats for national security and improvement of military preparedness of the Russian Federation Armed Forces.
The Prime Minister met with the leaders of RFNC-VNIIEF, visited industrial sites, laser testing area of Research Institute of Laser Physics and Institute of Theoretical and Computational Physics of RFNC-VNIIEF within his visit. RFNC-VNIIEF Director Valentin Kostyukov and specialists presented to Vladimir Putin the results of works on the presidential project “Supercomputer technologies and grid systems”. First Deputy Director of VNIIEF Vyacheslav Solovyev noticed that physicists and mathematicians focused on creation of supercomputer and compact supercomputer, as well as on computer simulation. Scientists of nuclear center develop products for main industries: aircraft construction, automobile production, space-rocket industry and nuclear power engineering”.
Putin also discussed with leading Russian experts formation of long term state strategy in national security and protection area, potential risks, problems of strategic balance maintenance, military reorganization course. The Chairman of the Government underlined: “This is the very site, where it is appropriate to speak about development problems of our army, navy and defense-industrial sector. After the Second World War there was formed a strategic balance, which protected us from global collisions. Our national mission towards the whole mankind is to preserve balance of strategic forces and opportunities”.
The Prime –Minister noticed that Russia needs an up to date system of defense planning and forecasting for 30-50 years ahead. There is no doubt that army, navy, Armed Forces, development of defense-industrial sector as an integral part of solution of country protection national mission need forecasting and planning for long-run prospect. RFNC-VNIIEF Scientific Director Radiy Ilkayev underlined that strengthening of defense potential is impossible without considerable science development.
Vladimir Putin also said that the Russian Federation is not going to refuse any of its security means, including tactical nuclear weapons.

All-Russian Youth scientific and technical Festival “People of Future” ended on 24 February. The results of an intellectual competition of pupils’ teams from 17 Russian cities were summarized. Scientific jury composed of NRNU MEPhI professors and VNIIEF employees evaluated the quality of works. Snezhinsk’s team was placed first and got the challenger cup of Rosatom State Corporation according to the results of subject contests, project defense of All-Russian competition of school scientific works “Junior” and experimental investigations on the basis of SarPhTI. Sarov’s team and Moscow’s team were placed second and third respectively.
General Director of the State Corporation for Atomic Energy Sergey Kiriyenko and Deputy Chairman of the Government Dmitry Rogozin took part in the solemn closing ceremony of the festival. “The most important thing in nuclear sector are people, working in it, - underlined Sergey Kiriyenko. – Taking into consideration the level of festival winners and participants, I am sure that nuclear sector is able to accomplish new large-scale missions”.

General Director of the State Corporation for Atomic Energy Segey Kirienko and the Head of Federal Medical and Biological Agency Vladimir Uijba visited the Central Clinical Hospital ¹ 50 in Sarov on 9 February 2012.
In November, 2011 the Head of Rosatom have already met with representatives of public city organizations and FMBA. At this meeting the basic problems were highlighted: re-equipment, making appointment to doctors, salaries of medical staff and living accommodations.
Since then certain problems had been solved yet. Vladimir Uijba mentioned, that about 250 millions were delivered for the needs of Sarov within the national project for modernization of health care services in ZATO and atomic power stations, with another 20 millions delivered for computerization of documentation processes.
Sergey Kirienko underlined, that the money for re-equipment and for modernization of appointment procedures are being implemented already, whereas the problems of salaries and accommodation are to be solved by FMBA, to which Rosatom is ready to give a helping hand.
The head of Rosatom said: “Inflow of new qualified personnel into medical services of Sarov city is of utmost importance. We wish that our high-qualified exerts be healed by no less qualified medical specialists”.
