Radii Ivanovich Ilkaev - 70

October 9, 2008 is a 70th anniversary of Radii Ivanovich Ilkaev - a Scientific Leader of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center - All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Radii Ivanovich belongs to a constellation of prominent Russian scientists who implemented the Soviet atomic project.

For many years R.I Ilkaev held a position of Director of the nuclear center and under his guidance VNIIEF has become the biggest scientific and technology center capable of accomplishing unique R&D in safeguarding reliability, efficiency and safety of the Russian nuclear stockpile.

R.I. Ilkaev has contributed unquestionably to creation of a modern scientific profile of the Institute. He was the initiator and scientific supervisor of the development of Russian state-of-the-art experimental facilities as well as unique computational systems.

R.I. Ilkaev gives full attention to solving the problems of nonproliferation of the weapons of mass destruction and ensuring global safety. He encouraged promotion of VNIIEF international contacts, development of mutually beneficial collaboration with foreign institutions, key scientific and research centers in Europe and Asia, US national laboratories.

Scientific and technical advances of R.I. Ilkaev in strengthening national security of the Russian Federation are marked with state awards, prizes, certificates of appreciation from RF President. R.I.Ilkaev is conferred a title of the "Honorable Scientist of the Russian Federation".

For outstanding achievements in the field of science R.I. Ilkaev was awarded an Ac. Sakharov's Gold Medal of RAS.
