Holding international meetings on this topic was initiated by Professor Siegfried Hecker (USA), and eminent scientist, honored with many scientific awards in his country and elected a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2003. The initiative of Dr. Hecker was supported by Rady Ilkaev (RFNC-VNIIEF Director in 1996 - 2008). In 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007 the Workshop was held in Sarov; in 2003 it took place in Los-Alamos, in 2005 in Snezhinsk (RFNC-VNIITF) and in 2006 in Livermore (LLNL). The Committee of the Workshop includes S. Hecker, academician of RAS B.V. Litvinov (RFNC-VNIITF), Sc. D. L.F. Timofeev (VNIINM), M. Flass (LLNL), V.A. Nadykto (RFNC-VNIIEF).

The VII International Workshop "Fundamental Properties of Plutonium" was held on 25-29 June, 2007 in RFNC-VNIIEF. Twenty experts from VNIIEF, VNIITF, VNIINM, LFTI, NIAR and 10 experts from the USA participated in the event. Thirty three reports and 12 poster papers were presented. A round table was arranged within the Conference.
