RF President D. A. Medvedev visited the RFNC-VNIIEF
“RFNC-VNIIEF has secured our planet’s stability for years ahead,” - noted D. A. Medvedev, the RF president, during his visit to Sarov on July 22, 2009.
In the course of the one-day stay at the Russian Federal Nuclear Center – VNIIEF, the president visited the Institute of Theoretical and Computational Physics and the Nuclear Weapons museum.
On that day, the VNIIEF’s House of Scientists hosted a guest session of the RF President’s Commission for Russia’s economics modernization and technological development. One of the major subjects under discussion was nuclear technology development. While opening the Commission’s session, D.A. Medvedev noted that it was no coincidence that the regular guest session was held in Sarov. “This is the very site where the first soviet nuclear device was created 60 years ago. Owing thereto, the foundation was laid for the strategic nuclear parity.” At the Commission’s meeting, V.E. Kostyukov, VNIIEF- Nuclear Center’s Director, made a presentation about new projects in the area of computer technologies. He emphasized: “Supercomputer technologies are the primary technological instrument of the XXI–th century to attain competitiveness on the world’s market.” The agenda of the Commission’s session involved presentations, statements, discussions. D.A. Medvedev explained the objective of the RF President’s Commission for economics modernization and technological development: “It is aimed at pushing forward all the decisions being currently of special importance for the country.”
